HOw To FIRST TRAIL CAM PICS

Image
Happy first of August! So here are our first Trailcam pics.   Not what we expected, ha.  First we captured this.  We're pretty sure it's a dog, but it's not 2nd Family's or any dog we've ever seen out there before.  Not sure why the video didn't go off on this, maybe it was over too quickly, need to read up on that.   Um, then there was this.   A cow. What the heck? Again, 2nd Family does not own cows, the neighbors behind us have cows but their herd is all black.  The only place it could have come from is either side but I checked the fence line and it seemed intact.  And this was on a Friday, there was no loose cow on Saturday/Sunday at the farm so we're not sure where it went, hopefully back where it came from.   2nd Family does leave the gate to the driveway open during the day and it's possible a cow wandered in (have seen a couple loose on the road in weeks past, called the Sheriff both times)....

HOw To WE HAVE DEER

Image
Been saving up some of the trail cam pics / videos for a post.  We have been inundated with deer.  OK, maybe not inundated, but there are quite a few around now.  The first part of this post are the photos and then there are a few videos at the end.   Here is one casually strolling around at noon... And at night... And early morning when it's foggy... And late at night when everyone is asleep... And every time in between, ha.   They are just running around the front yard... And over in the wooded area we cleared this year... Look!   It's a deer parade!   And here is one enjoying the midnight buffet of a hackberry tree. 2nd Family said there are two herds of deer that live on the large acreage behind us.  They hop the fence to go to the pond next door for drink and then hop another fence to graze in our yard. "R" said if we put a pond in our front yard, they'd probably ...

HOw To WE HAVE COYOTES

Image
We're sure many of you are familiar with Coyotes.  They are in many places across the United States.   The Texas variety is of course different.  TEXAS COYOTE INFO   Coyote, image courtesy of Wikicommons Since our video captures have been at night, we thought we'd post a picture of what they look like.  Here is the video we captured: This is through the wooded area that we cleared this Summer.  One quickly at the beginning, followed by a second and then wait for it...a third right at the end of the video.  It seems to be a path, from the front yard, diagonally across into this area and then I presume they hop the fence at the back and then have a few hundred acres of empty land to explore/hunt.   Now, let's just hope we don't capture a video of a coyote chasing down a fawn...

HOw To THE BIRDS

Image
Found this image on one of the trail cams a couple weeks back.  When we saw the still photo above, we were hoping the video portion of the camera captured something. If you think this is crazy, wait till you click the video: It's like a scene from "The Birds".  For all you youngsters out there, that's a classic Alfred Hitchcock movie, ha!  Would love to have seen (and heard) this in person.  We bet it was a sight (and sound) to behold.  We're just glad to have been able to witness it, albeit remotely.
