HOw To HOT DRY AND CRUNCHY SEASON




This is the front yard, which hasn't been mowed now in almost two weeks.  It looks the same.  Good for me in this heat, bad for the aesthetics of the yard.




This is the area behind the garden, it was lush and green a few weeks ago, now it's brown and dry!





The driveway...no mowing necessary!






Less green in the yard and more 'gold'!



2nd Family calls this the "dry and crunchy season".  And sure enough, as you walk around the yard, it does sort of crunch underneath your feet.  It's an odd sensation to say the least.


This was the outside temp yesterday when we left the farm.  Now granted, this is a bit higher because the car was sitting in the hot sun but I'm sure that while I was working outside in the yard, my temperature gauge was over 100 as well!

In this part of the country, the month of August is sort of no man's land...people just stop working outside if they can, and the plants even sort of seem to give up.  It's definitely the "dog days of Summer"

HOw To HORTON HEARS A WHO FLOWERS IN BLOOM

For some reason, these don't always appear at the farm each Spring.  Because of that, we love that somehow they are rarer than the other things popping up on a regular basis.   Dr. Seuss flower? Sure enough, last weekend, they were in a few patches around the farm.  The first time we ever saw one, the FIRST thing we both said was... HORTON HEARS A WHO!!!!!!! The iconic Dr. Seuss character who finds a whole world living on a speck on an awesome looking pink and yellow flower.  Horton Hears a Who flower The only thing missing on ours are the striped stems, ha.  They are SO pretty and so unusual, even if it is "just a weed", we love having them around.   I thought about cutting some to put in a small vase and see how long they last...and maybe we'll just have to start listening a little closer to them. Hmm, just thought about it, maybe I should try to press some in my flower press?
