Wall mounted oil lamps in the dining room We finally got the oil lamps put up in the dining room.  We found these online at the really cool mail order/store  LEHMANS .  They have a huge amount of oil lamps and accessories as well as a lot of other "non electric" fun stuff.  These were pretty inexpensive, which was a huge plus, and will let us try out what it's like to have only lamplight at night in the dining room.  We bought five of them, and put one centered in between each window frame, as you can see in these photos above and below. More wall mounted oil lamps This photo also shows the 4th and 5th ones, mounted in the center of each piece of wall all along one side and the end.  They were, of course, all mounted at the same height.  We measured down from the top, it's easier that way because floors can sometimes be uneven, and due to the height we wanted, we were closer to the ceiling, i.e. less space to measure, less room for err...

Wall mounted oil lamps off When we spent the night at the farm a couple of nights last month, we used the wall mounted oil lamps that we bought last year and this time, I finally remembered to take some pictures so we could share what they look like.  They put out a surprisingly large amount of light when all of them were lit.  There is one more to the left of the photo, just out of camera range, five total. (pay no mind to the missing roller shade, it will soon be replaced, ha).  There is no overhead lighting in the dining room and while we do have a couple of wall outlets that we could plug lamps into, for now anyway, we're going to try it with oil lamps and candles as the lighting source in the dining room. Wall Mounted Candle Holder Here is a lunchtime thrift store find, two wall mounted candle holders or sconces!  They are metal, sort of a tin type metal, and are in a shape that sort of reminds me of a pineapple, though I think it's probably just supposed to be leaves.   They hold one candle each with a small area to catch drips.  Of course, we have a huge supply of smokeless/dripless candles so that's not usually an issue but it's still a nice feature to keep any wax off the floors.  I almost wonder if there was some sort of glass hurricane shade of some sort on them at one point?  I'll keep my eyes out for something that might work for that. I thought about painting them, but after hanging them on each side of the clock to measure them and see what they looked like, I decided I kind of liked the look and the character it brings to the living room.  So they will be left as they are.  Best part of all?  It was only $3.50 for the set of...

Several of you asked about the wall mounted oil lamps we had in the dining room POST the other day.  I purchased them here at Lehman's .
